Most lakes in Mesa, Garfield, and Rio Blanco Counties are maintaining solid ice thickness, ranging from 10 to 16 inches in most areas. Recent cold nights have kept the ice stable, but always use caution near inlets, outlets, and pressure ridges.

Anglers are reporting steady action on rainbow trout and yellow perch at Rifle Gap Reservoir, especially during early morning and late afternoon. Jigging small spoons tipped with mealworms or waxworms has been effective in 10 to 20 feet of water. Brown trout have also been active, with a few quality fish being caught closer to structure.
